DEAL: 14x at Wine.com + $100 off $300

Friday, February 14, 2020

Step 1: Shop Through the Rakuten Portal for 14x

The Rakuten shopping portal is offering 14x at a number of retailers on 2/14/2020. If you've never used Rakuten before, here's a referral link:

https://www.rakuten.com/r/ROBERT67875?eeid=28187

One nice thing about Rakuten is that you can elect to earn Amex Membership Rewards instead of cashback. Since Membership Rewards can be worth more than a penny a piece when redeemed effectively, it's a great way to go.

Step 2: Use Code WKMP23 for $100 off $300+

Wine.com has had some great coupon codes lately. Here's another.

Bottom Line

$100 off $300 is 33% off. If you value the Membership Rewards you'll get from Rakuten at 1.5 cents a piece that's 21% off 33% off, or a 48% discount.

Too bad there's not a $10 off $50 Amex Offer running at the moment. But if you have some Wine .com gift cards kicking around, now would be a good time to use them.

DEAL: Kosta Browne Pinot Noir on Wine Access [Sold Out]

Wednesday, February 12, 2020

Wine Access is offering 2017 Kosta Browne Russian River Valley for $99/btl. This is the first time I've seen Kosta Browne Pinot available for such a low price, thanks to the potential to stack the deals below...

Step 1: Activate Amex Offer

There is an Amex Offer for Wine Access for $50 off $150. It seems to be widely available, so check for it on your Amex account(s) and activate it. It can be used up to 3 times, and expires 2/19/2020.

Step 2: Use refer-a-friend offer

If you've never ordered from Wine Access before, sign up through a refer-a-friend link for $50 off your first $150+ order:

This $50 referral discount should show at check-out. If it doesn't, try to figure out why it's not applying before completing your order.

Step 3: Minimize Overshoot

If you buy 2 bottles at $99/ea with free shipping the pre-tax total should come to $198. After $50 off for the refer-a-friend deal you'd land on $148, which is just shy of the $150 total needed to additionally trigger the Amex Offer.

If you live in a state with tax, it should be enough to put you over the top and trigger the offer.

But in states like MA where there is no sales tax on wine, you'd be a couple dollars short of the $150 required to trigger the Amex Offer. In that case, cosnider adding a "Top Off" bottle to get your total over $150.

Bottom Line

The winery-direct pricing of Kosta Browne appellation wines is currently $72/btl if you can get an allocation. Tack on shipping and it's more like $80/btl. With this deal I think we can see our way to it being around $50/btl fully loaded so it is the cheapest I've ever seen Kosta Browne Pinot Noir available.

I sense their supply has increased and demand has waned just a bit as the winery has exchanged ownership hands over the years, but these wines are still highly sought commodities.
